Education provides children with opportunities to escape poverty, gain a voice in their community, and experience a better quality of life. But since January 2016, several regions of Burkina Faso have been the target of large-scale terrorist attacks. In all these affected regions, deadly terrorist attacks are repeatedly carried out on innocent civilians, forcing them to flee the dangerous areas and leave all their belongings behind. Due to the regular terrorist threats against the population, teachers, and civil servants, more than 4200 schools have been closed, and approx. 708 000 children are affected by the closure (stand December 2022).
In the face of this unprecedented humanitarian disaster in Burkina Faso, we from TIEN’HAMMA have started the sponsorship project.
We want to give hope to these families and help fight the constant de-schooling of displaced children, which destroys the foundations of the Burkinabé society and reduces the chances of a better future for these displaced children. Our action aims is to sponsor the socially disadvantaged children in the Eastern Region of Burkina Faso by paying their school fees including meals for the next three years (60 Euro per year and per child for primary schools and 155 Euro per year and per child for the secondary schools).
